In a hurry? Use the Wire Removal quick guide instead.
PhotoDirector's Wire Removal uses AI to find the power lines and cables in a photo, remove them, and fill in the view behind them. You get a clear sky, while the clouds, roofs, and utility poles stay as they were. It saves cloning out every cable by hand.

- In PhotoDirector, choose Guided & GenAI, then click Edit and Wire Removal.
- Drag in a photo, or click Import Photo. The wires are found and marked in red on their own.
- To adjust the marks, use the Brush or Eraser on the Manual tab.
- Click Remove.
- Click Export at the top to save the photo.
Steps to Use Wire Removal
Step 1: Open Wire Removal
From the PhotoDirector launcher, choose Guided & GenAI.

Click Edit in the rail on the left, then choose Wire Removal under Object Removal.

Step 2: Import a Photo
Drag the photo with the power lines or cables you want to remove onto the canvas. Or click Import Photo to bring it in.

Step 3: Check the Detected Wires
As soon as the photo is in, Wire Removal finds the wires and marks them in red.
To adjust the marks, use the tools on the Manual tab. Paint with the Brush to add a wire it missed, and set the size under Brush settings so the stroke is a little wider than the wire. Use the Eraser to take back a mark on something you want to keep. Or hold Alt while you brush to switch to the eraser.

For a long, straight wire, switch to the Line drawer tab next to Manual. Click one point on the wire, click the next point along it, and double-click to finish. A straight red mark joins the points. Set its width under Brush settings or with the mouse wheel, and use the Eraser to take back extra marks.

Step 4: Click Remove
Click Remove. The red marks disappear along with the wires under them, and the sky is filled in to match what surrounds it. If part of a wire is still there, brush over what's left and click Remove again. To start over, click Reset at the bottom of the panel.

Step 5: Export the Photo
Click Export at the top to save the photo. A Save As window opens in the original photo's folder and adds -1 to the file name. The edit is saved as a new photo, and the original stays as it was. Only what's marked is removed, so the utility poles stayed. For the file types you can save, see PhotoDirector's supported file formats.

Another way: the Quick recommendations. Quick, at the top of the rail on the Guided & GenAI tab, recommends edits for your photo. When it finds wires, Wire Removal is at the bottom of the list. The Remove Wire switch there starts off. Turn it on to remove the wires, then click Export.

We tested these steps in PhotoDirector 365 version 18.0.10 on Windows.

Yes. The wires strung between the houses were removed along with the ones against the open sky.
Use Auto/Manual Removal, listed just above Wire Removal under Object Removal. Wire Removal is made for long, thin lines.
