In a hurry? Use the Video Edit by Chat quick guide instead.
PowerDirector's Video Edit by Chat changes what's in a shot based on what you type. When a change is easier to show, you can add reference images too. You get a new version of the shot, and your original clip stays as it was.

- In PowerDirector, open Video Edit by Chat from the GenAI menu.
- Drop your clip into Import your video.
- Type the change you want in the prompt box, and add up to 3 stills with Images if the change needs a reference.
- Click Generate.
- Play the clip that comes back.
- Use Re-generate if you want another take. Or click New Chat to start on another shot.
- Click My Creations at the top right of the window to find the new version.
Steps to Use Video Edit by Chat
Step 1: Open Video Edit by Chat
Open Video Edit by Chat from the GenAI menu at the top of the window. Or select the clip and open the feature from Tools on the Video tab of the Edit panel.

Step 2: Bring In the Clip You Want to Change
Video Edit by Chat works on one clip at a time, so drag the clip you want to change onto Import your video on the left. Or click the drop area and pick the file.

Once the clip lands, its first frame and its length replace the drop area.
Step 3: Type the Change You Want
Click into the box and write the change the way you'd say it out loud, like Replace the weather.

Naming the one thing that should change works better than describing the whole shot. When you do need to be precise, you have room for up to 2,000 characters.
For changes that are easier to show than to write, add up to 3 reference stills with Images. You can point at one with an @ mention.
For ideas, scan the Explore video editing ideas row along the bottom. The ideas include Make a Character Older, Change Scene to Sunny Day, Turn Scene into Winter, Add Explosion, and Autumn Glow.
Step 4: Click Generate
Check the dropdown beside Generate to see which model runs the job, then click Generate.

Step 5: Watch What Comes Back
Once you generate, the window turns into a conversation. Your request sits on the right as a card holding the clip and the words you typed. The new version comes back on the left, ready to play in place.

Step 6: Run It Again or Start a New Chat
For a different take, click Re-generate on your request card. It runs the same request again.
Moving on to another shot? Click New Chat at the top left to start a fresh conversation.

Step 7: Find the Clip in My Creations
Click My Creations at the top right of the Video Edit by Chat window to find the new version of your shot.

The Result
Here's the clip that came back from that request, with a brighter sky and warmer light on the roof.
We tested these steps in PowerDirector 365 version 25.0.7 on Windows.
