In a hurry? Use the Agentic Editor quick guide instead.
PowerDirector's Agentic Editor takes requests in plain words right in the editing window. It edits the clips in your project, generates images and videos, and answers editing questions, so you can describe a fix instead of hunting through menus. Starting from clips before you open a project? Use the Agentic Editor from the Launcher instead.
- In the editing window, click Agent in the toolbar above the timeline.
- Click the clip on the timeline that you want to change.
- Type the change in the request box, such as Reduce the noise in this video, and send it.
- Check the edit on the timeline, or finish it in the tool the agent opens.
What the Agentic Editor Can Do
What you hand the agent decides where the result goes. Your timeline only changes when you edit a clip that's on it.
| You want to | How to ask | Where the result goes |
|---|---|---|
| Fix a clip on your timeline, such as reducing noise | Click the clip, then type the change | On the clip itself. An effect icon marks what changed. |
| Edit a clip in the media library | Drag the clip onto the request box, then type the change | A new file in the media library. Your timeline stays as it was. |
| Do a job that needs a full tool, such as removing an object | Click the clip and ask as usual | A button that opens the tool, where you finish the edit. |
| Make a new video or image | Add a photo with +, or describe it in words | The media library, ready to add to your timeline. |
| Find out how to do something | Type your question | A step-by-step answer with a button that opens the feature. |
Steps to Edit a Timeline Clip with the Agentic Editor
Step 1: Open the Agentic Editor
In the editing window, click Agent in the toolbar above the timeline. The Agentic Editor opens as a panel on the right. It offers three ways to start: Suggest me what to edit, Generate video or image with AI, and Ask any editing or product question.

Or open the GenAI menu and choose Agentic Editor, the first item.

Step 2: Select the Clip
Click the clip on the timeline that you want to change. A Video label with the clip's thumbnail appears in the request box at the bottom of the panel. That's the clip the agent will edit.

To edit a clip that isn't on the timeline, drag it from the media library onto the request box instead. Clicking it in the library doesn't attach it. The agent saves that edit as a new file in the media library, such as export (0).mp4, and leaves your timeline as it was.

Step 3: Describe the Edit
Type the change in plain words, such as Reduce the noise in this video. Then click the blue send button at the bottom right of the box.

Step 4: Check the Edit
The agent makes the change on the timeline and says what it did in the chat. Here it applied video noise reduction, and an effect icon now sits at the start of the clip.

Click the icon to see which effect was applied, here Video Denoise.

Some jobs need a full tool. Ask the agent to remove an object, for example, and it replies with a button such as Open AI Object Removal. Click it and finish the edit in that tool. For those steps, see how to remove objects from video.

Steps to Make a New Video or Image for Your Project
Step 1: Add a Photo, or Start from Words
To turn a photo into a video, click + at the bottom left of the request box and choose a photo from your computer. It appears in the box with an Image label. To make something from a description alone, leave the box empty.

Step 2: Describe What You Want
For a video, say how long it should be and what happens in it. This example uses Turn this photo into a 5-second video: the batter swings and hits a home run.
For an image, say what it should show: the subject, the setting, the light, and the framing. For example: Generate an image: a mountain biker resting on a ridge at sunset, warm golden light, wide shot. Then click the blue send button at the bottom right of the box.

Step 3: Choose the Options
The agent asks a question or two before it starts. For a video, pick the aspect ratio: 16:9 (widescreen), 9:16 (vertical), or 1:1 (square).

For an image, pick how many to make, from 1 to 4. Then pick one of five aspect ratios: 16:9 (Landscape), 9:16 (Portrait), 1:1 (Square), 4:3 (Standard), or 3:4 (Vertical).

Step 4: Confirm the Credits
Before it generates anything, the agent says the job will deduct credits and asks you to confirm. The Generate button shows how many. Click Generate, or Cancel to stop. The 5-second video in this example took about 3 minutes.

Step 5: Add It to Your Timeline
The result appears in the chat and in the media library. To put it in your project, click ··· at its top right and choose Append to the first track.

It lands after the last clip on the first track.

We tested these steps in PowerDirector 365 version 25.0.10 on Windows.

It depends on where the clip is. An edit to a timeline clip is applied to that clip, and its effect icon shows what changed. A job handed to a tool, such as object removal, makes a new version and asks before it overwrites the clip. A clip you drag in from the media library is left as it was, and the result is saved as a new file.
Video Edit by Chat works on one clip at a time and regenerates what's inside it, such as the weather or the scene. The Agentic Editor helps with the whole edit. It applies fixes and effects to your clips, opens tools like AI Video Object Removal, and generates images and videos for your timeline. See how to use Video Edit by Chat to learn more about that tool.
Yes. Click Ask any editing or product question at the top of the panel for sample questions, or type your own, such as How do I use Image to Video? If a question could mean more than one thing, the agent asks first. Its answer goes step by step and ends with a button that opens the feature.
